Consoles

The Consoles section of the North Devon Retro Archive focuses on dedicated gaming systems that brought arcade-style entertainment into the home. From early cartridge-based machines and 8-bit classics to more advanced CD-based systems, these consoles represent the evolution of home gaming across multiple generations. Each entry documents a system from my personal collection, preserved as both a functional piece of hardware and a cultural artefact from its time.

Unlike home computers, consoles were designed with a single purpose in mind: playing games. Their simplicity, distinctive hardware designs, and exclusive libraries helped define entire eras of gaming. Where possible, each console entry includes photographs, technical information, regional variations, and notes on condition, accessories, and restoration work. As with the rest of the archive, this section is continually expanded as new systems are added and existing ones are explored in more detail.
