Gameboy Color

The Nintendo Game Boy Color, released in 1998, upgraded the original handheld with a reflective 2.3‑inch LCD that could display up to 56 colours (later models added a backlight), while retaining full compatibility with the original Game Boy cartridge library. Powered by a 4.19 MHz Sharp LR 35902 CPU and two AA batteries that lasted around 10 hours, it introduced colour‑enhanced classics such as The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX and Pokémon Red/Blue in a sleek, slightly smaller shell that fit easily in a pocket. The system also featured an infrared port for limited wireless communication and a built‑in “Game Boy Printer” accessory, cementing its appeal as a bridge between the monochrome era and the upcoming 32‑bit handhelds.
