The Sony PSX Model DESR-5000 is Sony’s Japan-exclusive hybrid digital video recorder and PlayStation 2 console, released on December 13, 2003. As the launch model of the PSX series, it features a 160GB hard disk drive, slot-loading DVD recorder with DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW support, and integrated VHF/UHF/CATV tuners with full DVR functionality. Powered by the unified Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer chipset, it offers complete native compatibility with both PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software, and was the first consumer device to feature Sony’s XrossMediaBar (XMB) user interface. Housed in a distinctive solid white chassis with an embossed PSX logo, the DESR-5000 represents a rare and highly collectable convergence of Sony’s consumer electronics and gaming heritage.
