The original Xbox dropped in 2001 and was Microsoft’s entry into the console wars. It had some major muscle with its custom Intel processor and NVIDIA graphics chip, letting it handle games like Halo: Combat Evolved and Fable with ease. The console’s design was pretty distinctive too – that big green ring and controller were hard to miss. It had a decent library of games, and its online capabilities via Xbox Live were ahead of the curve. Though it didn’t exactly dethrone Sony’s PS2, it marked Microsoft as a serious player in gaming.
