Archimedes A3010

The Acorn Archimedes A3010, launched in September 1992, was a compact and capable home computer designed to bring 32-bit RISC computing to the masses. Powered by a 12 MHz ARM250 processor, it was nearly twice as fast as its predecessor, the A3000. The A3010 featured a built-in TV modulator, standard 9-pin joystick ports, and support for up to 2MB of RAM, making it an attractive option for gamers and home users. With its sleek design and affordable price point, starting at £499 including VAT, the A3010 was a significant departure from Acorn’s traditional beige and red color schemes, sporting green function keys instead. Although it had limitations, such as no built-in hard drive and limited expandability, the A3010 remained a beloved machine among retro tech enthusiasts and was widely used in UK schools.
