The Philips Videopac G7000, released in 1978 as the European version of the Magnavox Odyssey², was a cartridge‑based home console that combined a modest 8‑bit Intel 8048 processor with a built‑in QWERTY keyboard for typing simple commands and BASIC programs. It generated a 160 × 200‑pixel display with up to 16 colours, offered 64 bytes of RAM (expandable via cartridges) and could play a library of around 50 game titles ranging from action to educational software. Though its graphics and sound were far less sophisticated than later systems, the G7000 found a niche as an affordable, “smart” console that encouraged early experimentation with interactive media.
